Portable instrument, designed and manufactured according to requirements, can be used for testing and direct reading measurements:

1. Tile and pavement slip resistance testing (this measurement uses a specialized (4-S) Four-S slider (standard simulated shoe sole). When surface roughness exceeds a certain value, the TRL slider can also be used as an alternative to the (4-S) Four-S slider.

The Pendulum measures the frictional resistance between a rubber slider mounted at the end of the pendulum arm and the test surface. This provides highway and flooring engineers with a routine method to check the slip resistance and skid potential of dry and wet surfaces. The pendulum arm has a spring-loaded rubber slider on its foot. The Pendulum device is placed on the section of road/floor surface to be tested. It is then leveled, and the height of the pendulum suspension center is adjusted to a fixed value, which can be read on a special gauge. The pendulum is then released from its horizontal position and swings freely downward until the rubber slider contacts the test surface. As the slider moves a fixed distance over the surface, the pendulum slows, and a friction-restrained pointer fixed to the pendulum arm measures the highest point in the pendulum's arc. The pointer's position is then read on a measuring arc scaled from 0 to 150. The pointer reading indicates the slip resistance of the test surface.

The instrument is provided "without rubber sliders, which must be ordered separately (see accessories below)".
